High Street Retailers Enhance Customer Experience Through k2e Employability Training

kickstart2employment, one of the UK’s fastest growing training companies, has delivered employability training for a number of high street retail brands that aims to enhance customer engagement and instore productivity.

k2e worked in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and the Crowngate Shopping Centre in Worcester to deliver a comprehensive training programme that would prepare candidates for a career in the retail sector. Through the delivery of the NOCN Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development Certificate, k2e equipped candidates with the competencies required to complete an initial work experience placement before successfully securing permanent employment with leading retail employers operating within the Crowngate Shopping Centre.

The two week course follows an intensive programme of modules that develop a candidate’s ability to succeed in a fast paced sales environment. As well as acquiring valuable skills in customer service, candidates were trained in team work and communications, health and safety matters, time management and problem solving. In preparation for their work experience, candidates were supported to create an advanced personal career portfolio whilst strengthening interpersonal and interview skills.

Everyone involved in the development of this collaborative programme was impressed with its results, with over 50% going on to secure employment at the shopping centre. Mike Close was one such candidate. Commenting on the employability programme, he said:

Many of the candidates who had been out of work for some time found the course useful in building confidence and acquiring new skills. Course participant Paul Beech said:

The course was led by Neal Colpitts who proactively engaged with candidates of all abilities and enthusiasm levels. We covered a diverse syllabus of relevant subjects, which was ideal for both people approaching their first job and those refreshing skills to help them successfully re-enter the job market. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire course, even the parts I found personally challenging. It has enabled me to regain my confidence and self-esteem.”

k2e developed the modules so course participants could actively and confidently commence employment. Being trained effectively in customer service will enable them to engage with customers and provide a positive experience at all times. The course nurtured participants to be proactive in their roles, which will inevitably drive efficiencies and productivity in the workplace.

k2e, Jobcentre Plus and the Crowngate Shopping Centre are currently looking to deliver this training programme to a wider selection of retail brands, so they too can maximise the opportunity to acquire well-rounded and engaged employees to strengthen their workforces. Discussions are also ongoing about the introduction of an Apprenticeship Scheme that will further advance the skills of both new and existing staff working throughout the shopping centre.
