(Posted on 03/11/17)

GAP Personnel and Kickstart2employment have joined forces with Jobcentre Plus to offer local people a unique opportunity to gain new skills and secure employment. Working in partnership with local employers they have created a bespoke 5 day skills academy to address skills shortages in the region and fast-track unemployed learners into employment. To date, over 80% of those who have attended the academy have progressed into employment.

Commenting on the concept of the training programme, k2e’s director Julian Hughes, said:

“This academy provides a unique opportunity for a number of strategic partners to come together and make a difference to the lives of unemployed people in North Wales. We have delivered similar programmes with great success in England and we are delighted to have the chance to launch such an initiative in Wales. As a Welsh training company, it is our aim support local businesses by creating and delivering effective training and development programmes across the region.”

The academy has been developed in partnership with employers and gives learners the opportunity to gain effective teamwork and communication skills, a working knowledge of manual handling and an introduction to the type of equipment they will be using in their day-to-day roles. Learners who completed the course are guaranteed an interview and successful candidates are then offered employment.

GAP Personnel have played an instrumental role in motivating candidates to participate in the academy in the hope of securing work. Gary Richards GAP Personnel Regional Director (North Wales), said:

“GAP Personnel is proud to be working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and k2e to give unemployed people from the local community the opportunity to acquire new skills and embark on what we hope will be a long and prosperous career. Everyone involved in this academy is committed to developing a new route to employment for local people. We plan to develop the Skills Academy model at other sites across North Wales and the North West, whilst introducing new academies in Warehousing and General Manufacturing in the near future.”

Graham Halliwell, course tutor commented:

“It’s been a privilege to work with such great groups of learners. Delivering this programme has convinced me that the majority of those attending the academy are just looking for a chance to prove themselves. Being able to deliver the programme at the employer’s premises has provided the learners with an opportunity to see the job first hand which makes a huge difference.”
